Suicide Squad Dev Suffering More Job Cuts

Rocksteady Studios, renowned for the Batman: Arkham series, has experienced further layoffs following the disappointing performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The game's underperformance, reported in February, initially resulted in a 50% reduction of the QA team in September. Recent reports indicate additional job cuts impacting programming and art teams, occurring just before the release of the game's final update. Several affected employees, speaking anonymously to Eurogamer, confirmed these recent dismissals. Warner Bros. has yet to publicly address these developments, mirroring their silence on the September layoffs.

The financial strain of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's underperformance is evidently impacting not only Rocksteady but also WB Games Montreal. WB Games Montreal, responsible for Gotham Knights and Batman: Arkham Origins, also announced layoffs in December, primarily affecting QA staff who contributed to Suicide Squad's post-launch DLC. The final DLC, featuring Deathstroke, launched December 10th. While a final update for Suicide Squad is expected later this month, Rocksteady's future projects remain uncertain. The game's commercial failure casts a shadow on the studio's otherwise impressive track record of critically acclaimed DC titles. The extensive layoffs serve as a stark consequence of the live-service title's underwhelming reception.
