by Sebastian May 08,2026

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl 1.5 update has arrived, delivering numerous refinements and bug fixes. But the real headline is GSC Game World's initial rollout of modding tools—now demanding significant storage space alongside heightened anticipation.

"Customize the Zone your way with the Stalker 2 Zone Kit," announced GSC Game World. "Whether enhancing existing elements or crafting entirely new adventures—from animations and weaponry to gameplay systems and even the Zone's mysterious phenomena."

Exciting? Absolutely. Although you'll need a spare 700GB—plus the base game's 160GB requirement.

GSC clarified this stems from their collaboration with modders: sharing uncompressed source files ensures mod creators work with pristine assets—benefitting the entire community.

"The mod kit's substantial size reflects uncompressed in-game resources for creators," GSC explained to PC Gamer. "Given the game's scale and asset volume, the download is inevitably large. As phase one, we'll evaluate potential optimizations moving forward."

"We released this Zone Kit as Phase 1 to co-develop it alongside modders," a community manager noted on Reddit. "While feature-rich now, Phase 2 will expand Zone manipulation possibilities further."
