Anbernic suspends US deliveries over tariffs

by Emery Apr 15,2026

Retro gaming device maker Anbernic has temporarily halted all shipments to the United States.

As reported by The Verge, the company cited "recent adjustments to U.S. tariff regulations" as the reason, advising customers to "consider products from our U.S. warehouses that aren't subject to import duties." Orders requiring shipment from China are currently on hold.

Anbernic gained popularity through affordable Game Boy-inspired handhelds, typically shipped directly from China upon release before maintaining U.S. warehouse stock.

The company's website offers shipping origin options, but certain products like the RG CubeXX and RG 406H remain unavailable from U.S. warehouses, effectively limiting American customers' access.

Recent trade policies have imposed tariffs reaching 145% on Chinese imports, with potential increases up to 245% for specific categories like electric vehicles. While some businesses can absorb these costs, most eventually reach consumers - a trend already affecting gaming hardware prices, including Nintendo Switch 2 peripherals and gaming PCs.

Anbernic stated it's "exploring solutions" for customers potentially facing customs charges during this adjustment phase.

Nintendo recently showcased the Switch 2 during a 60-minute presentation. Initial U.S. pre-orders slated for early April were postponed to April 24 due to tariff concerns affecting both the U.S. and Canadian markets. While console and game pricing remained at $449.99, most accessories saw price increases during the delay.
