Does Civilization 7 Have Cross-Play and Cross-Progression (Civ 7)?

by Noah Feb 20,2025

Sid Meier's Civilization VII ushers in a new era for the iconic turn-based strategy series, available across major gaming platforms. This guide clarifies its cross-play and cross-progression features.

Cross-Play: Civilization VII supports cross-play, but with limitations. An active 2K account linked to your chosen platforms is required. Cross-play functions seamlessly across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, offering standard map sizes and player counts. However, playing with Nintendo Switch users introduces restrictions. The Switch version has limitations on map size (cannot support standard or larger maps) and player counts (up to four players in Antiquity and Exploration Ages, six in the Modern Age). If a Switch player joins a cross-play session, these limitations apply to all participants. While the Switch version is playable, its capabilities should be considered, particularly in online multiplayer.

Civilization VII cross-progression

Cross-Progression: Unlike the complexities of cross-play, cross-progression in Civilization VII is straightforward. With an active 2K account, your progress is synced across all linked platforms. This means your game saves are accessible regardless of whether you're playing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or other supported platforms. This feature, absent in Civilization VI at launch, is a key improvement in Civilization VII, reflecting modern gaming preferences. Progress is seamlessly tracked across devices, from Steam Deck to Switch, ensuring a consistent gaming experience.

Civilization VII launches February 11th.
