HBO has revealed the actors cast in the pivotal roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley for the upcoming television series.

The HBO Original Harry Potter series will feature newcomers Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

Showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner, along with director Mark Mylod who will helm multiple episodes, released a joint statement: “Following an extensive casting search led by Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are thrilled to introduce our Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

“Watching these three remarkable actors brings us immense joy, and we are eager for audiences to see their on-screen chemistry. We also extend our gratitude to the thousands of children who auditioned—discovering such a wealth of young talent has been truly inspiring.”

In April, Warner Bros. and HBO confirmed the first six cast members set to reinterpret iconic Hogwarts professors for the new Harry Potter series.

This initial look at the cast introduced John Lithgow (Conclave, Dexter), who had previously revealed he would portray Albus Dumbledore, alongside other actors who had been widely rumored or speculated about.

Fans may recognize two familiar faces: Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), who will play Rubeus Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Black Mirror), cast in the role of Severus Snape. Completing the lineup are Janet McTeer (Me Before You, The Menu) as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon (The Favourite, Present Laughter) as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse (The Fast Show, Alice Through the Looking Glass) as Argus Filch.

Dumbledore, Hagrid, and Snape are not only beloved figures in the Harry Potter saga but also icons in popular culture. Each actor faces high expectations, a point Lithgow acknowledged earlier this year when he confirmed his casting as Hogwarts' headmaster.

“I received the call while at the Sundance Film Festival working on another project, and it was a difficult decision because this role will likely define the final stage of my career,” he told ScreenRant in February.

“Yet I'm genuinely excited. Some brilliant creators are revisiting the world of Harry Potter, which made the choice so challenging. I’ll be around 87 by the wrap party, but I’ve happily accepted.”
