The legendary Hunter x Hunter franchise has made its gaming comeback with Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact, though its reception hasn't been entirely smooth. Despite the beloved IP and Eighting's respected fighting game pedigree, players are encountering significant roadblocks that threaten its potential.
Since its July 16 launch, the tag-team fighter has drawn particular criticism for its problematic netcode implementation. Though Steam reviews currently sit at "Mixed" with a 2:1 positive ratio, even enthusiastic players acknowledge the persistent online issues undermining the experience.
"I love the combat's fluidity and creative freedom - it's unmatched in modern fighters," writes one fan, "but the netcode struggles are hard to ignore." This sentiment echoes across social media, where commentators note frequent frame fluctuations (3-6f rollback) even in regional matches.
"Core gameplay feels fantastic during local play, but the unstable netcode makes the current version tough to recommend," observes FGC professional Broskі.
The disappointment stings particularly because Nen x Impact boasts strong fundamentals. Eighting's Marvel vs. Capcom 3 legacy shines through in the flashy, freeform combat system. The Hunter x Hunter roster - featuring fan favorites like Hisoka and Biscuit Krueger - delivers diverse playstyles true to the source material.
Developer Eighting acknowledged the issues hours after launch, confirming investigations into excessive rollback and desync errors. A upcoming patch promises improved connection diagnostics, though timing remains critical with competitors like 2XKO approaching.
The situation highlights modern fighting games' delicate balancing act. While Bushiroad delayed Nen x Impact specifically to implement rollback netcode, current performance suggests more optimization is needed before it can properly leverage its shonen hype and technical pedigree.
