We spoke with Ann Healy, the senior designer behind this first Simpsons LEGO set in nearly ten years. A six-year LEGO veteran, Healy shared insights into bringing Krusty's greasy haunt to brick life—including how a forgotten prototype sparked the revival.

Which LEGO sets have you designed previously?

Healy: After three years with LEGO Friends, I helped create Hocus Pocus: Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage—a passion project that took years to perfect. Currently on the LEGO Icons team, I designed last year's McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna and the festive Botanicals Poinsettia sets.

Why revive The Simpsons LEGO line now?

Healy: Market research confirmed enduring global love for The Simpsons—it made perfect sense to expand our existing Kwik-E-Mart and Simpsons House sets. Interestingly, I discovered an early Krusty Burger prototype during my first week at LEGO. When our marketing head dusted it off five years later as a potential revival, I jumped at the chance!

Walk us through the design process.

Healy: Starting with digital models, I iterated between virtual builds and physical prototypes—rebuilding the entire set at least 20 times. We held regular reviews with creative leads, model governance teams, and Fox representatives to perfect minifigure likenesses and structural integrity. The final quality check? Building the first production sample myself.

How did you adapt Krusty Burger's fluid cartoon appearance?

Healy: Fox provided reference materials, but I binged episodes to capture details like the drive-thru sign (featured in "Diatribe of a Mad Housewife") and the Mother Nature Burger from "Coming to Homerica." Other key references included:

- Season 6's "Homie the Clown" (Homer's clown gig)
- Season 12's "Day of the Jackanapes" (Bob and Bart's confrontation)
- Season 21's "Treehouse of Horror XX" (zombie outbreak)

Favorite hidden detail?

Healy: The kitchen screen shows an order for 700 burgers—a callback to Season 5's doomed offshore Krusty Burger.

Biggest design challenge?

Healy: Balancing Krusty's massive neon sign on slim supports. Our solution? A prototype axle sleeve developed specifically for this set.
