The latest entry in Capcom's iconic series broke records within just 30 minutes of its Steam release, hitting over 675,000 concurrent players and quickly approaching the 1 million milestone. This launch not only marks the most successful debut in Monster Hunter history but also sets a new all-time record for the publisher. The previous record-holder, Monster Hunter: World (2018), peaked at 334,000 simultaneous players, while Monster Hunter Rise (2022) ranks third with 230,000. Despite these strong figures, the game has faced a wave of negative reviews on Steam due to technical problems such as bugs and frequent crashes.
Monster Hunter Wilds features a standalone story, making it a great starting point for new players. Set in a world teeming with dangerous creatures, the protagonist uncovers the mysteries of the Forbidden Lands. Along the way, players will encounter the fabled "White Ghost"—a mythical beast—and meet enigmatic Guardians, who bring depth and intrigue to the narrative.
While the game received mostly positive reviews ahead of launch, some critics pointed out that Capcom has streamlined gameplay systems to appeal to a wider audience. Still, many players and reviewers agree these adjustments are successful, noting that they make the game more accessible while preserving its depth and overall quality.
Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on modern consoles (PS5, Xbox Series) and PC.
