Good News For Mortal Kombat 2 Release Date

by Noah Dec 11,2025

The release date for Mortal Kombat 2 has shifted once more, this time moving up a week to premiere on May 8, 2026.

The film was originally scheduled for an October 24, 2025 debut, but Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema pushed it to May 15, 2026, believing the summer box office would be more favorable following the overwhelming reaction to the trailer.

This adjustment creates more distance from Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, which premieres on May 22.

New Line Cinema describes the sequel as "the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise, embracing its signature brutal glory." Actress Adeline Rudolph recently confirmed that Kitana's role in the film is just as substantial as Karl Urban's Johnny Cage.

"When I first read the script, it struck me as a convergence of two worlds—Earthrealm, Edenia, and Outworld," Rudolph explained. "Kitana's narrative is deeply connected to Johnny Cage's journey, and their stories weave in and out of each other throughout the film."

Elsewhere in the Mortal Kombat universe, the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Atari, is set for release in late October. It was also revealed at New York Comic-Con that Mortal Kombat III is currently in development.
