Plants vs. Zombies celebrates its 16th anniversary, and the developers are throwing a party straight from Neighborville. Sixteen years ago, a peashooter fired its first shot, marking the official start of the backyard war.
To commemorate the 16th birthday, EA is offering several discounts. At the PvZ shop, Dave’s Secret Stash is providing up to 33% off on packs. There is also up to 20% off on Mini Games, a great bonus for anyone planting peas or munching brains.
The developers are also sharing behind-the-scenes stories from the team who built the game and from fans who have been defending their lawns since the beginning. These stories highlight the game's quirky characters and endless plant puns.
The best part of the Plants vs. Zombies Sweet 16 celebration might be the video they released. It's a tribute to the community that has enjoyed the game for over a decade, featuring zombies disco-dancing and teleporting.

Plants vs. Zombies first launched on desktop in 2009 by Popcap Games. It was quirky, hilarious, and instantly addictive. Players loved the smiling sunflowers and zombies shuffling across the lawn in traffic cones.
The game moved to mobile in 2010, and by 2012, EA acquired Popcap. In 2013, Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time arrived with new worlds and whimsical mechanics.
Meanwhile, Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia has been in development since 2020. After a soft launch, it was pulled back for a rework. The team says it's getting a new art style and will capture the classic tower defense feel.
