It speaks volumes about Niantic that many have called Pokémon Go’s launch the 'closest we ever came to world peace' or something similar. After nine years since its debut, both young and old still recall the groundbreaking moment when the game brought Pokémon into the real world (in a way).

Now, as Pokémon Go approaches its ninth anniversary, it’s celebrating in style with a brand-new event. From July 1st to July 6th, you can encounter Pokémon in special outfits—Ivysaur and Venusaur will sport stylish party hats, while Gimmighoul appears holding an eye-catching 9th-anniversary coin.

There’s also a range of bonuses to encourage players to join the ninth-anniversary festivities. Enjoy a higher chance of becoming Lucky Friends, encountering Lucky Pokémon, and seeing PokeStops turn gold without using a Golden Lure Module, among other rewards.

Going global

But that’s not all—alongside the anniversary, more details about the upcoming Go Fest 2025 have been shared. The event runs from August 28th to 29th, and you can join for free or upgrade with an event ticket.

Whether you purchase a ticket or not, there’s plenty to enjoy. Different event-themed Pokémon will appear on Saturday and Sunday, along with a variety of event bonuses. Special avatar items will also be available through the Go Pass and in-game event shop during this steampunk-themed celebration.
