Insomniac Games, renowned for the Ratchet & Clank franchise, has expressed keen interest in expanding its game-to-screen adaptations. This follows the recent retirement of founder and CEO Ted Price, as revealed in an interview with Variety.
Co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider highlighted the studio's positive experience with the 2016 Ratchet & Clank film, stating their continued enthusiasm for such projects, particularly concerning their flagship series. The 2016 film, while receiving mixed reviews, has paved the way for future endeavors. Insomniac’s acquisition by Sony in 2019 further bolsters their confidence, given Sony's proven success with game adaptations like The Last of Us.

Insomniac's ambitions align perfectly with Sony's successful foray into adapting video games for film and television. Recent successes include the 2022 Uncharted film and the critically acclaimed 2023 The Last of Us series.
Further solidifying their commitment, Sony announced additional projects at CES 2025, including The Last of Us Season 2 (HBO, April 2025), an Until Dawn live-action film (April 2025), and a Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series (Crunchyroll, 2027). A Helldivers feature film and a Horizon Zero Dawn live-action adaptation are also underway, though release dates remain unannounced.

Ted Price's retirement after 30 years marks a significant change for Insomniac. The company's future will be guided by three veteran co-Studio Heads: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang. Price expressed confidence in this new leadership team, emphasizing their deep understanding of Insomniac's culture and processes. The studio, known for iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel's Spider-Man, is poised for continued success under its new leadership.
