Ryu Ga Gotoku Reveals "Stranger Than Heaven" Project

by Mila Oct 29,2025

PlayRyu Ga Gotoku Studio's intriguing alt-history action game previously known as Project Century has emerged from Summer Game Fest with fresh details, more mysteries, and an official title: Stranger Than Heaven.

Originally revealed as Project Century during last December's Game Awards with minimal information, we now know this Yakuza-creator-developed title features combat reminiscent of the studio's signature style – but notably enhanced. The interface appears more polished, combat looks more visceral, and the moral choice between mercy and brutality introduces new depth absent from previous Yakuza titles.

A Trail of New Clues and Lingering Questions

The latest trailer generates as many questions as it answers. The initial Project Century teaser depicted 1915 Japan, while this new footage clearly takes place in 1943. This temporal discrepancy raises fascinating possibilities – could this involve time travel, or simply an ambitious narrative spanning decades? The location also remains ambiguous, with architectural hints possibly pointing to fan-favorite districts like Sotenbori or Kamurocho, or perhaps an entirely new setting.

When Eras and Cultures Collide

Both trailers showcase a striking fusion of traditional Japanese elements with classic Americana, creating an alternate reality where historical periods and cultural aesthetics intertwine. While clearly set in Japan, the exact nature of this reimagined history remains purposefully vague, fueling fan speculation that will undoubtedly intensify following this new reveal.

Meet Mako Daito...Maybe?

We've finally learned a character name - Mako Daito, who appears to be the protagonist based on trailer focus and dialogue. His distinctive blue eyes and cryptic comments suggest supernatural qualities, though specifics remain unclear. In a bizarre twist, previous teases hinted at Snoop Dogg's potential involvement – certainly not your typical Ryu Ga Gotoku casting choice.
