Silent Hill f: Konami's Horror Title Earns Adults-Only Rating in Japan

by Penelope Jan 15,2026

Silent Hill f has become the first game in the Silent Hill series to receive an 18+ age rating in Japan.

The Japanese reveal trailer that debuted last night shows the game is rated Mature in the United States, PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan.

Since the game is still in active development, these ratings could change. However, as noted by Automaton, previous entries like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room all received a CERO:C rating (for ages 15 and up), while other internationally developed Silent Hill titles typically received either CERO:C or CERO:D (ages 17+).

Even the Silent Hill 2 Remake—Bloober Team's reimagining of the 2001 classic—was rated CERO:C in Japan, despite earning a Mature (17+) rating in most Western regions.

Last night, Konami shared new information during its Silent Hill Transmission, an online presentation dedicated to the series. This installment was entirely focused on Silent Hill f, the upcoming mainline entry in the beloved horror franchise and the first new mainline title in 13 years.

Originally announced in 2022, Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan and follows Shimizu Hinako, a teenage girl facing intense pressure from her family, friends, and society. The story is written by Ryukishi07, the creator of the acclaimed visual novel series When They Cry.

The reveal trailer depicts Hinako in various states of distress—covered in blood and injuries, her Japanese school uniform torn and tattered. Although the trailer relies more on cutscenes than gameplay, it provides an extended look at the game's setting, monster designs, and a version of the Otherworld that replaces the iconic rust and industrial decay with blood-red flowers.

No release date has been announced for Silent Hill f, and no further details were shared about No Code's upcoming Silent Hill game, Townfall.
