CD Projekt Red confirms Ciri will be the protagonist of The Witcher 4, a decision driven by narrative progression and the potential inherent in the character. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, leaving Ciri, a richly developed character from both the books and games, as the natural successor. This allows for fresh creative avenues and a new narrative focus.
Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's younger age as a key factor, providing greater flexibility in character development compared to the established Geralt. The shift, discussed internally for nearly a decade, underscores CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for Ciri as Geralt's heir. Kalemba anticipates the new challenges Ciri faces will forge an equally compelling storyline.
Voice actor Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt, supports the change, acknowledging Ciri's considerable potential as a lead. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, emphasizing the shift in narrative perspective. The game promises a new chapter in the Witcher saga, built on a foundation of established lore and exciting new possibilities.
