The iconic Master Chief, star of the Halo franchise and a popular Fortnite skin, recently returned to the item shop after a two-year hiatus, much to the delight of fans. However, this joyous reunion was briefly overshadowed by a controversy surrounding the Matte Black style.
Originally, this exclusive style was offered only to players using Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised the style as perpetually obtainable. The unexpected announcement of its removal, therefore, caused significant backlash.
Some disgruntled fans even considered legal action, threatening a class-action lawsuit, believing the decision violated established terms. However, Epic Games swiftly reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single game on an Xbox Series S|X console.
This reversal appears to be the most prudent decision, especially given the festive holiday season. Such a move would likely have soured the celebratory mood for many players.
