Harrison Ford Joins Marvel After Indiana Jones 5 Disappointment

by Nova Feb 22,2025

Harrison Ford remains unfazed by the critical and commercial failure of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," casually remarking, "s**t happens." He revealed his decision to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe was driven by a desire for a "good time."

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, the Star Wars icon acknowledged his own impetus for the fifth Indiana Jones film, stating he "felt there was another story to tell." However, he expressed indifference towards the film's negative critical reception and estimated $100 million loss.

Ford explained his motivation, saying, "When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of his life, I wanted one more chance to dust him off and see what happened." He added, "I’m still happy I made that movie."

This latest cinematic venture hasn't deterred him from embracing another iconic franchise. Ford has joined the MCU in "Captain America: Brave New World," stepping into the role of Thaddeus Ross, originally portrayed by the late William Hurt. This iteration sees Ross taking on a more prominent role as the Red Hulk.

Ford clarified that his decision predated knowledge of this transformation, having not even reviewed a script before joining the project. He simply found the prospect appealing.

"Why not? I saw actors I admired having a good time in Marvel films," Ford stated. "I didn’t know I’d turn into the Red Hulk. It’s like life; you only get so far until the instructions are incomplete."

"Captain America: Brave New World," slated for a February 14th release, is among the shorter MCU films. It marks Anthony Mackie's debut as Captain America, succeeding Chris Evans. The film also promises to incorporate lesser-known Marvel characters, including a long-awaited payoff from "The Incredible Hulk" with the introduction of The Leader.
