2025 MacBook Air M4 Review

The Ultimate Portable Workhorse Returns

Apple's MacBook Air remains the gold standard for ultraportable productivity, and the 2025 refresh with M4 chip continues this legacy. While externally identical to previous models, this iteration delivers what business users and students truly need – exceptional battery life in an impossibly thin package.

Pricing and Configurations

Available immediately, the MacBook Air (M4, Early 2025) starts at $999 for the 13-inch model and $1,199 for this reviewed 15-inch version. For power users, Apple offers configurations up to 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD ($2,399).

Timeless Design Perfected

The MacBook Air's iconic aluminum chassis hasn't changed visually, nor does it need to. At just 3.3 pounds for the 15-inch model, it remains one of the lightest laptops in its class. The unibody construction measures under half an inch thick – still impressive six generations later.

Apple's clever engineering shines through hidden details. The speakers, neatly concealed in the hinge area, surprisingly deliver clear audio amplified by the display lid. The fanless M4 design eliminates ventilation needs, resulting in an ultra-clean aesthetic with only subtle rubber feet on the base.

Display That Delivers

MacBook Air display quality

The 15.3-inch 1880p panel covers 99% of DCI-P3 color space while reaching 426 nits brightness in testing. Not quite OLED levels, but more than adequate for productivity work and media consumption. The anti-glare coating performs well for indoor use, though direct sunlight remains challenging.

Performance Where It Counts

As expected from a fanless design, the M4 MacBook Air isn't meant for intensive tasks. Our testing showed poor gaming performance (18fps in Total War: Warhammer 3 at Ultra), though this isn't the device's intended purpose.

Where it excels is everyday productivity – effortlessly handling dozens of Safari tabs while streaming music. The 32GB RAM configuration we tested never faltered during heavy multitasking sessions. For light Photoshop work and document creation, it's remarkably capable.

Legendary Battery Life

Apple's 18-hour video playback claim proved conservative in our testing, with local video loops lasting nearly 19.5 hours. Real-world usage saw 4-5 hour work sessions spread across multiple days without charging. The included compact charger makes topping up convenient when needed.

For business travelers and mobile professionals, the MacBook Air (M4) remains arguably the best premium thin-and-light laptop available. While power users may prefer the Pro models, this iteration perfects what the Air line has always done best – delivering premium portability that works wherever you do.
