The Marvel Universe in 2025 is defined by one word: "Doom." February marks the launch of "One World Under Doom," a massive crossover event. Doctor Doom, the newly crowned Sorcerer Supreme, claims global dominion. This epic narrative unfolds in Ryan North and R.B. Silva's "One World Under Doom" miniseries and numerous tie-in titles. A crucial tie-in is "Thunderbolts: Doomstrike," penned by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, with art by Tommaso Bianchi.

IGN presents an exclusive preview of "Thunderbolts: Doomstrike" #3 (April release). Marvel's synopsis hints at a thrilling clash: "Bucky, Songbird, Sharon Carter, and the Midnight Angels devise a daring plan to seize Doctor Doom's vibranium supply. Is Bucky Barnes Responsible for Emperor Doom's Rise?

"Thunderbolts: Doomstrike" continues the narrative initiated in the 2023 "Thunderbolts" relaunch by Kelly and Lanzing. This iteration, led by Bucky Barnes, aggressively confronts major Marvel villains. Their victories, however, inadvertently pave the way for Doom's ascension.

Lanzing explains, "Bucky neutralized the Red Skull, crippled Kingpin's finances, and undermined US government deterrence. This was intended to foster a safer world and inspire change. Unfortunately, it also inspired Victor Von Doom, whom Bucky used as a tool."

Kelly reveals that the "Worldstrike" storyline was always designed to lead to a Doom-focused sequel. North's company-wide Doom crossover was a fortuitous development. "Doomstrike" becomes a referendum on Bucky's choices, offering him a chance at redemption.

Bucky's guilt, stemming from his past as the Winter Soldier and his Outer Circle missions, intensifies with his role in Doom's rise. Doom intends to exploit this guilt.

The Thunderbolts' motivations are diverse. Songbird acts out of loyalty and heroism, yet grapples with the loss of Abner Jenkins. Black Widow prioritizes Bucky's safety. Sharon Carter combats fascism. U.S. Agent is disillusioned. Ghost Rider '44, an old friend, re-enters the fray. Other members remain a surprise.

Regarding Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Kelly teases, "That's a complex question best answered by reading issue #1."

Thunderbolts vs. Thunderbolts

"Doomstrike" features the return of the original 1997 Thunderbolts, most of whom now serve Doom. The clash between Bucky's team and Doom's is inevitable.

Kelly highlights the return of the original Thunderbolts, exploring the theme of redemption. Lanzing notes that Doom, not Bucky, controls the Thunderbolts in his regime.

Songbird's loyalty is tested, caught between her past and her commitment to Bucky.

"Doomstrike" serves as the culmination of Kelly and Lanzing's multi-year Bucky Barnes storyline, incorporating elements from "Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty" and "Captain America: Cold War."

Lanzing describes it as the grand finale of their "Revolution Saga," encompassing previous works. It's a pivotal moment for long-time readers and newcomers alike.

The creators aim to attract MCU viewers, particularly given the team roster similarities. Kelly emphasizes the familiarity of the MCU's Bucky, the Machiavellian nature of Contessa Valentina, the Bucky/Natasha romance, and Doom's upcoming MCU prominence.
