A dedicated modder has addressed frustrations among Wuchang: Fallen Feathers PC players regarding controversial adjustments in Patch 1.5.
Developer Leenzee Games previously assured players that performance and optimization problems since launch would be resolved. While Patch 1.5 delivered these fixes, it unexpectedly altered core elements including enemy behavior, dialogue, and narrative progression.
Originally, players could target and eliminate passive NPCs throughout the game, impacting their character's "madness" mechanic. Post-patch, these NPCs became invulnerable, removing this interaction option. Boss fights were similarly changed - players can now only weaken enemies into submission rather than achieving decisive victories.
The update has sparked significant backlash across Steam's community platforms. Within days of release, a modder created a comprehensive restoration mod that reverts all changes back to version 1.4.1.
"Patch 1.5 severely diminishes Wuchang's experience - late-game encounters now conclude with trivial dialogue instead of impactful story moments," explained the mod creator. "These changes fundamentally break the game's narrative consistency and immersion."
The creator acknowledges their mod is technically complex, involving direct file modifications. For players wanting only partial reversions, they recommend supplementary mods like Fast Vertical Traversal, Improved Recovery, and Fast Item Pick Up to maintain quality-of-life improvements.
Set in the chaotic late Ming Dynasty period, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Souls-inspired RPG where players control a feather-disease-afflicted warrior uncovering dark secrets amidst a collapsing empire.
IGN awarded Wuchang an 8/10, praising its "exceptional combat system, masterful level design, expansive skill tree, and challenging boss encounters," while noting occasional difficulty imbalances and predictable ambush scenarios.
