Monster Hunter Wilds: Players Discover Captured Monsters Flee

by Jonathan Jan 09,2026

While most players think of Monster Hunter as a game about slaying monsters, capturing them is also a vital part of the experience. As Monster Hunter Wilds players are now learning, if you capture a monster and stick around, you might witness a rather amusing sequence.

A post by Reddit user RDGtheGreat on the r/MonsterHunter subreddit demonstrates this perfectly. By remaining near a captured monster, you get to see a bit of "behind-the-scenes" action—specifically, the monster waking up and walking away.

Fun fact: captured monsters just get up and leave within a minute of napping

After capturing a Nu Udra and waiting patiently, the enormous cephalopod simply gets to its feet and departs. Many have compared the moment to a film crew wrapping up a scene, and it's all in good fun.

As for plausible in-universe explanations, it's reasonable to assume the research team doesn't have massive cages on hand. The idea of Monster Hunter Wilds adopting a catch-and-release philosophy for its studies feels fitting and aligns with Alma's and the crew's overall approach throughout the story.

Whatever the lore justification might be, it's a charming detail. It's impressive that Capcom's developers considered this scenario and created a specific animation instead of just having the monster fade away. It does look a bit comical, watching this creature—now missing several limbs—scurry off into the distance. Yet, it's a thoughtful touch that may offer deeper insight into how Alma and her team conduct their fieldwork.
