Outer Worlds 2 Development Update from ObsidianObsidian Entertainment provides a positive update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2, alongside their other projects. CEO Feargus Urquhart recently shared insights into the progress of both the highly anticipated sequel and their upcoming fantasy RPG, Avowed.

Obsidian's Confidence in Upcoming Titles

In a YouTube interview with Limit Break Network, Urquhart confirmed that development on The Outer Worlds 2 is progressing well. He praised the dedicated team, many of whom worked on the original title, expressing strong confidence in their ability to deliver a quality sequel.

Urquhart acknowledged the significant challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and post-Microsoft acquisition. Simultaneous development of multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment, placed considerable strain on the team. He candidly admitted a period of slowed development, even mentioning internal discussions about potentially halting The Outer Worlds 2 to focus resources on Avowed. However, Obsidian ultimately persevered, continuing development across all projects.

Obsidian's Multi-Title Development ChallengesHe recounted the complexities of navigating acquisition, pandemic restrictions, and the simultaneous development of Outer Worlds, its DLC, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, Grounded, and Pentiment.

Despite the setbacks, Urquhart highlighted the successful launches of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed enthusiasm for the progress on Avowed and, importantly, The Outer Worlds 2, describing the latter as "looking incredible." While specific gameplay details remain undisclosed, the recent delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential schedule adjustments for other projects.

Positive Outlook for The Outer Worlds 2Initially announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates. Urquhart acknowledged the lack of news and the possibility of a launch delay, mirroring the situation with Avowed. However, he reassured fans of Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality experiences, stating that while initial timelines may not be met, the studio remains dedicated to completing all its projects. Both The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
