Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How To Catch And Evolve Deino

by Allison Feb 21,2025

This guide details how to obtain and utilize the powerful Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon Hydreigon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hydreigon, a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, is a formidable addition to any team. However, its evolutionary line (Deino and Zweilous) is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet.

Acquiring Deino:

Deino and its evolution, Zweilous, are found in specific locations within Pokémon Scarlet:

  • Alfornada Cavern: Located southwest Paldea; requires Koraidon's high jump ability.
  • Dalizapa Passage: Situated between Medali and Zapapico.
  • Glaseado Mountain: Easily accessible.
  • Area Zero: Another readily accessible location.
  • North Province (Area Two): Relatively easy to reach.

Deino and Zweilous also appear in Tera Raids (3-star and 4-star respectively), offering a chance for a Pokémon with a Hidden Ability. Hydreigon can be obtained from 5/6-star Tera Raids.

Transferring Deino to Pokémon Violet:

Since Deino is Scarlet-exclusive, transferring it to Violet requires trading via the Union Circle (requires Nintendo Switch Online) or Pokémon HOME. Pokémon HOME allows transfers from Pokémon Sword/Shield, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon Scarlet.

  1. Move Deino to your Basic Box in Pokémon HOME.
  2. Open Pokémon Violet in HOME and transfer Deino to a PC Box.

Evolution:

Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. Utilize auto-battling or Exp. Candies (L and XL recommended) to expedite the leveling process.

Hydreigon's Strengths and Weaknesses:

Hydreigon boasts a base stat total of 600, excelling in Special Attack and Attack with good Speed. A Timid or Jolly Nature is recommended.

  • Strengths: High Special Attack and Attack, good Speed. Effective against Dragon, Ghost, and Psychic types.
  • Weaknesses: Quadruple weakness to Fairy, and vulnerabilities to Fighting, Bug, Dragon, and Ice types.
  • Resistances: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, and Dark.
  • Immunities: Ground and Psychic.

Hydreigon's double weakness to Fairy can be mitigated through Terastallizing. Its movepool allows for both physical and special attacking strategies. Flash Cannon (via TM) is a crucial Steel-type move to counter its Fairy weakness. Other recommended moves include Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse.

Hydreigon Stats:

Stat Base Stat
HP 92
Attack 105
Defense 90
Special Attack 125
Special Defense 90
Speed 98
Total 600

This comprehensive guide ensures you can successfully acquire and effectively utilize Hydreigon in your Pokémon Scarlet and Violet journey.
