What Is the Pokemon GO Tour Pass? New Free Progression Feature, Explained

by Savannah Feb 23,2025

The Pokémon GO Tour: Unova event introduces a new, free feature: the Tour Pass. Many players initially focused on the cost, but this pass is free for all! Let's explore its details.

What is the Pokémon GO Tour Pass?

Debuting with Pokémon GO Tour: Unova (starting February 24th, 10 AM local time), the Tour Pass is a system of completing tasks to earn Tour Points. These points unlock rewards, boost rank, and enhance event bonuses.

While the standard Tour Pass is free and automatically granted, a paid "Tour Pass Deluxe" ($14.99 USD or equivalent) offers an immediate Victini encounter, superior rewards, and faster progression.

Earning and Using Tour Points

Tour Points are earned via familiar in-game activities: catching Pokémon, raids, and egg hatching. Daily Pass Tasks provide additional points. These points unlock rewards, increase your rank, and boost Catch XP bonuses.

Rank progression unlocks rewards (Pokémon encounters, Candy, Poké Balls, etc.) and increases Catch XP bonuses:

  • Tier 2: 1.5x Catch XP
  • Tier 3: 2x Catch XP
  • Tier 4: 3x Catch XP

Niantic has yet to reveal all rewards; further details are promised. The free pass culminates in a Zorua encounter with a unique background, while the Deluxe Pass offers a Lucky Trinket.

The Lucky Trinket

Exclusive to the Tour Pass Deluxe, the Lucky Trinket is a one-time-use item that transforms a friend (at least Great Friends level) into a Lucky Friend, enabling a Lucky Pokémon trade without requiring Best Friend status. Note that Lucky Trinkets obtained during this event expire on March 9, 2025.

Pokémon GO is available now.
