Robert Eggers Sets Eyes on Mysterious Labyrinth Sequel

by Connor Feb 21,2025

Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.

According to Variety, Eggers will helm this new chapter in the Labyrinth saga, penning the script alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. While a sequel was previously in development with Scott Derrickson (director of Sinister) attached, a lack of progress since 2023 led TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures to enlist Eggers.

PlayThe original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's perilous journey into a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped baby brother, aided by a cast of Henson puppets.

This isn't Eggers' only upcoming project. He's also directing a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English.

Eggers' Nosferatu, a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, was released last Christmas. The 19th-century German-set story centers on a real estate agent whose trip to Transylvania to sell a castle to a mysterious count unleashes vampiric terrors upon him and his wife.

Nosferatu garnered four Oscar nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. A review of Nosferatu can be found here.
