CD Projekt Red has confirmed that development on Cyberpunk 2 (codenamed Orion) has entered pre-production. The announcement came during the studio's latest financial report, which also revealed the Phantom Liberty expansion surpassed 10 million sales.
Currently, 96 of CDPR's 730 developers are dedicated to the sequel. The majority (422 staff members) remain focused on The Witcher 4, suggesting both projects remain years from release.
Although concrete details remain scarce, Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith recently shared some intriguing tidbits during Digital Dragons 2025. While less involved than with the original game, Pondsmith confirmed he's reviewing scripts and visiting the studio to provide feedback.
"I was chatting with different departments last week," Pondsmith recalled. "They'd show me new cyberware prototypes and ask, 'What do you think?' and I'd give my thoughts on what worked."
The most tantalizing reveal? The sequel will feature an entirely new metropolis alongside Night City. Pondsmith described this location as having "a Chicago gone wrong" vibe - though he clarified this refers to the atmosphere rather than confirming a literal futuristic Chicago setting.
The Polish studio has multiple irons in the fire beyond the Cyberpunk sequel:
While fans shouldn't expect Cyberpunk 2 anytime soon, the confirmation of pre-production and these early teases offer exciting glimpses into CD Projekt's ambitious future plans.
