GTA 6 Special Edition Price Revealed: Up to $150 Additional Cost for Online Payables

Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto, spearheaded the movement towards $70 AAA game pricing. Concerns exist that this trend might continue, or even escalate, with the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

While the standard edition of GTA 6 might remain in the $70 range, avoiding a price point of $80-$100, industry insiders suggest a premium edition priced between $100 and $150 could be offered, potentially including early access.

According to Tez2, a known games industry insider, Rockstar/Take-Two will sell GTA 6 Online separately at launch, unlike previous titles. The story mode will be bundled as part of a "complete package" encompassing both online and offline components.

This separate pricing strategy introduces several pricing considerations. How much will the online component cost independently? And what will be the upgrade price for story mode for those who initially purchase only the online version?

By offering a lower-priced online version, Take-Two could attract players unable to afford the full $70 or even a potential $80 game. This strategy is advantageous as these players could then be incentivized to upgrade to access the story mode. This also creates a potential revenue stream from players who want the story mode but can't afford the upgrade immediately.

Further monetization could be achieved through a subscription service similar to Xbox Game Pass, leveraging GTA+. Players who continue playing the online component instead of saving for the story mode upgrade will generate ongoing revenue for Take-Two. This represents another potential win for the publisher.
