Le Game of Life de Conway est un automate cellulaire conçu par le mathématicien britannique John Conway en 1970. Il se joue sur une grille bidimensionnelle infinie composée de cellules carrées, dont chacune peut se trouver dans l'un des deux états: vivant ou mort. L'état de chaque cellule évolue au fil du temps sur la base d'un ensemble simple de règles qui prennent en compte les états de ses huit cellules voisines - celles adjacentes horizontalement, verticalement ou en diagonale.
L'évolution du système se produit dans des étapes de temps discrètes appelées générations.
