The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster Tops 2025 US Sales Charts.

by Emma Jan 07,2026

Not only has The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered achieved impressive concurrent player numbers on Steam and Bethesda's own announcement of 4 million players, but it has also become the third best-selling game of 2025 in the United States after just one week on the market.

Oblivion Remastered, which launched unexpectedly on April 22, reached a peak of 216,784 concurrent players on Steam. While notable, this figure doesn't represent the full picture, as the game also released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and was available on Game Pass from day one.

Now, a new milestone has been reached: within its first week of sales, Oblivion Remastered climbed to become the third highest-grossing game in the U.S. for 2025 so far. According to Circana's Mat Piscatella, who shared the news on social media, the remaster trails only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows on the annual sales chart.

It's important to note that Circana's sales data does not include players accessing the game through subscription services. This confirms that Oblivion Remastered is a commercial success, even with its simultaneous availability on Microsoft's Game Pass.

Given this triumph, it seems almost certain that more Bethesda remasters will follow. Speculation points toward either Fallout 3—previously leaked in 2023—or Fallout: New Vegas being next in line.

If either title is indeed remastered, what can players anticipate? Bruce Nesmith, one of the lead designers on Fallout 3, has highlighted the game's "subpar" gunplay, which he expects Bethesda would significantly enhance in a remaster.

In an interview with VideoGamer, Nesmith suggested a Fallout 3 Remaster would feature shooting mechanics more aligned with Fallout 4. "Look at the changes implemented in Fallout 4—that indicates what the team believed needed improvement from Fallout 3," Nesmith commented.

"I know a great deal of effort went into refining gun combat for Fallout 4 because Fallout 3 was Bethesda's first attempt at a shooter-style game. The enhancements made were, in my opinion, outstanding."

Developed by remake specialist Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered includes a extensive list of visual and gameplay upgrades. It runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, as expected, but many other improvements are more substantial. Enhancements span the leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. The remaster also introduces new dialogue, a fully realized third-person camera, and advanced lip-syncing technology. These changes have been well-received by fans, with some arguing that Oblivion Remastered could rightly be considered a remake. Bethesda, however, has clarified its decision to pursue a remaster rather than a full remake.

Nesmith indicated that a Fallout 3 Remaster would likely incorporate improvements similar in scope to those seen in Oblivion Remastered.

"[Fallout 3's combat] didn't measure up to other shooters available at the time," he noted. "Additionally, it's an RPG with shooter elements, not a pure run-and-gun experience. Significant work was done to address this in Fallout 4, so I expect similar advancements would be integrated, assuming the same approach is taken."

"The Oblivion remaster wasn't simply upgraded to match the 2011 version of Skyrim," he added. "It was elevated to a level that, superficially at least, appears to surpass even the most recent graphical updates to Skyrim." Nesmith has stated that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is so remarkable it could be dubbed "Oblivion 2.0."
