"Path of Exile 2 Dev Reveals Urgent Updates Amid 'Mostly Negative' Steam Reviews"

by Audrey May 04,2025

Path of Exile 2 developer Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has introduced a series of emergency updates to address the widespread backlash following the Dawn of the Hunt expansion. The update, which was released earlier this month, introduced the new Huntress class, five new ascension classes, and a host of new items and crafting options. However, the community's reaction was overwhelmingly negative, with Steam user reviews dropping to 'mostly negative' due to complaints about the game's pacing being drastically slowed down, turning the experience into what many described as a "total slog."

Players voiced their frustrations over various aspects of the game, including excessively long boss fights, skills with minimal damage output, and an overall sluggish gameplay pace. The community felt that the game had strayed from the fast-paced action expected from an action role-playing game (ARPG). Moreover, issues with game stability and performance added to the dissatisfaction.

In response to the feedback, GGG has rolled out patch 0.2.0e, set to be deployed on April 11. The patch notes detail a comprehensive list of changes aimed at addressing the community's concerns. Key modifications include adjustments to monster speed and behavior across different acts to reduce player overwhelm, changes to boss mechanics for fairer fights, and improvements to player minions and crafting systems.

Monster Speed Changes involve removing interrupt events for certain monsters, reducing the speed of fast monsters, and adjusting the density of challenging monsters in various acts. Boss Changes focus on making encounters less frustrating by reducing the intensity of certain boss abilities and improving visibility during fights. Player Minion Changes introduce a new revive timer system to prevent prolonged downtime for minions, alongside other quality-of-life improvements.

On the Player Balance front, GGG has made tweaks to allow for more flexible skill usage and fixed bugs related to certain abilities. Crafting Changes have been expanded to include new mods for caster weapons and the introduction of a Blank rune for elemental crafting.

To enhance performance, Performance Improvements have been made, particularly in optimizing ground foliage to reduce lag. The patch also includes Charm Changes to make charms more impactful and easier to use, alongside the introduction of Stash Tab Affinities and Atlas Bookmarks to improve inventory management and navigation.

The question now is whether these changes will be sufficient to restore the community's faith in Path of Exile 2. Despite the game's successful launch and the challenges faced by GGG in managing a large player base, the immediate priority is to address player feedback and improve the overall gaming experience.
