MindsEye Xbox Launch Delayed for Key Refinements

by Grace Jan 16,2026

MindsEye, the highly anticipated action-adventure game from Grand Theft Auto creator Leslie Benzies, launches today on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, a crucial day-one patch won't be available for Xbox consoles at launch.

Developer Build A Rocket Boy explained last night on Reddit that due to differing platform certification processes, the 16 GB update is delayed for Microsoft's systems. The studio strongly recommends installing this patch to experience MindsEye as intended.

According to the developer, the patch delivers "key final refinements," including "gameplay improvements, visual polish, stability fixes, and performance tuning." An exact release date for Xbox remains unclear, with the team stating it "will be made available on Xbox as soon as possible."

This is the same update Build A Rocket Boy advised fans to wait for last week after early copies surfaced. Initial impressions of the unpatched version included criticism labeling the game a "technical mess."

"We want everyone to experience the story simultaneously at launch, without bias," the studio stated regarding early playthroughs. This stance means Xbox players must now wait a bit longer for the optimal experience.

The mention of "bias" in the statement led some fans to recall co-CEO Mark Gerhard's previous comments about a purported "concerted effort" to damage the game's and studio's reputation using orchestrated negative posts.

When IGN asked Hakan Abrak, CEO of publisher IO Interactive, about these claims, he responded, "I don't know. I don't believe that. The game should speak for itself on June 10th."

MindsEye's journey to release has been unconventional. It was first announced as an episodic campaign for the now-canceled creative platform, Everywhere.

The final release focuses on its story mode as the main attraction. While the full game includes world-customization tools from Everywhere, its broader metaverse elements have been deprioritized.

In MindsEye, players assume the role of Jacob Diaz, a former military drone pilot fitted with a neural interface chip. The procedure fractured Diaz's psyche, and players must investigate his past to uncover the truth.
