Persona 4 Actors Won't Return for Unannounced Remake

by Emery Nov 25,2025

While there's no official confirmation of a Persona 4 remake, we now know at least three original English voice actors won't be returning if it happens.

Earlier this week, Yuri Lowenthal, the voice of Yosuke Hanamura, stated on BlueSky he would not reprise his role for a potential Persona 4 remake—a project that hasn't been formally announced.

"For those asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake," Lowenthal said in a since-deleted post. "I asked, maybe even begged, but they don't want me back."

This prompted two more original cast members to speak up. Erin Fitzgerald, the English voice of Chie Satonaka, stated she hadn't been asked to return. Subsequently, Amanda Winn Lee confirmed she also wasn't returning as Yukiko Amagi.

These announcements have led fans to speculate that a Persona 4 remake might indeed be imminent. Rumors have circulated for over a year, with a recent domain registration adding fuel to the fire.

Assuming a remake is in development, the reason for not inviting the original actors remains unclear. Potential factors include the ongoing SAG-AFTRA voice actor strike, or it could simply be Atlus's standard practice, as seen with the complete English voice recast for Persona 3 Reload, which included Lowenthal's role.

However, some fans propose a more elaborate theory: this could be a coordinated marketing stunt. One fan on Twitter/X noted that the actors announced their non-involvement in the exact order you recruit their characters in Persona 4: Yosuke, Chie, then Yukiko.

Some on social media have expanded this theory, suggesting that if either Troy Baker or Matt Mercer (both previous English voices for Kanji Tatsumi) is the next to announce their absence, it would confirm all four actors are actually in the remake. While this sounds far-fetched, it's not entirely implausible given Persona 4's themes of rejecting and accepting one's true self. One hypothesis is the original cast could be voicing the Shadow versions of their characters, making their initial statements technically true, albeit misleading. That said, most fans consider this theory a stretch, and a full recast by Atlus remains the more likely scenario.

With mounting speculation around a Persona 4 remake, an official announcement is hopefully coming soon to clarify the situation, possibly at an upcoming event like Summer Game Fest or the Xbox showcase.
