Capcom is diligently working to enhance the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds ahead of its launch, with a special focus on reducing the PC's GPU requirements. This effort aims to make the game more accessible to a wider audience. Let's delve into Capcom's plans for this highly anticipated title.
On January 19, 2025, Monster Hunter Germany's official X (formerly Twitter) account announced that Capcom is actively enhancing the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds. A video was shared, showcasing a hunter engaging in combat with Quematrice, a rooster-like brute wyvern, under the updated Prioritize Framerate mode for PS5. This mode boosts frame rates at the expense of some graphical details.
The post also revealed that Capcom is applying similar optimizations to the PC version, with a specific goal to reduce the recommended GPU requirements. "Performance will be improved in a similar way, and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements," the X post stated.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. If Capcom successfully lowers these requirements, the game could become playable on lower or mid-tier GPUs, significantly broadening its player base.
Additionally, Capcom is set to release a free benchmarking tool that will help players determine the optimal settings for their PCs or assess if their systems can run the game. This could alleviate concerns about needing to upgrade hardware, especially if the GPU requirements are indeed reduced.

During the first open beta test of Monster Hunter Wilds, which ran from October to November 2024, many players encountered performance issues. Feedback from Steam users highlighted the presence of low-poly NPCs and monsters, which some compared unfavorably to the graphics of PS1 games.
Beyond the visual concerns, players also reported frame rate drops and other performance hiccups. These issues were particularly frustrating for those running the game on high-end PCs. While some managed to enhance performance, it often came at the cost of graphical quality, further degrading the visual experience.
Despite the initial beta's challenges, Capcom addressed these concerns on November 1, 2024, stating, "The issue of afterimage noise occurring in certain environments when Frame Generation is enabled will be fixed in the full game, which is already in a more improved state compared to the beta test."
Players will soon have the opportunity to experience these improvements, as Capcom has scheduled a second Open Beta Test for Monster Hunter Wilds from February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. This test will feature the Bird Wyvern Gypceros and an unknown monster. It remains to be seen whether the recent performance enhancements will be included in this final beta test.
