In a revealing interview with PC Gamer’s Magazine Issue 405, as reported by Games Radar on February 10, 2025, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki shared exciting details about the game's map. The terrain will feature dynamically generated elements such as volcanoes, forests, and swamps, ensuring that no two playthroughs are ever the same.

True to the Soulslike genre, Elden Ring Nightreign will incorporate challenging environmental hazards like poison swamps, compelling players to adapt their strategies on the fly. Ishizaki elaborated, "The map will undergo large-scale changes with the appearance of volcanoes, swamps, or forests through procedural generation."

The concept behind this feature is to transform the entire map into a vast, ever-changing dungeon. Ishizaki noted, "We wanted the map to be a giant dungeon, allowing players to explore and navigate differently each time they play." For example, forests not only offer cover for players but also for enemies, adding a layer of tactical depth to encounters.

"Once you've made that choice, you might have an idea of how to strategize against a boss, which could change your approach to the map. We wanted to give players the agency to decide, 'I need a poison weapon this time to face this boss.'"

Familiar terrains from previous titles, such as the notorious Swamp of Aeonia and Lake of Rot, may make a return, challenging players with their slowing effects and the Rot debuff. Additionally, these dynamic landscapes could introduce specific enemies like Giant Lobsters, Crabs, Runebears, Magma Wyrms, and other formidable foes from the Souls series.
