In a recent and rather pointed critique, Daniel Vavra—creator of the *Kingdom Come* trilogy and co-founder of Warhorse Studios—expressed strong reservations about Unreal Engine. He argued that the engine is fundamentally ill-suited for handling complex open-world environments, suggesting this limitation played a role in the production challenges surrounding *The Witcher 4*.
“Unreal works well if you're making a game set in a desert with rocks,” Vavra reportedly said, “but for years, the engine struggled with rendering trees.” According to him, even the much-hyped Nanite technology falls short when it comes to realistically portraying dense vegetation.
Vavra also referenced a conversation with a CD Projekt employee, who allegedly confirmed that scenes which previously worked smoothly on the studio’s proprietary RED Engine are now causing technical difficulties under Unreal. As a result, development on *The Witcher 4* has reportedly been mired in what can only be described as production hell.
From his perspective, Vavra finds it puzzling that CD Projekt chose to abandon its own capable RED Engine in favor of Unreal. He noted that many studios developing ambitious open worlds tend to rely on custom-built engines tailored to their specific needs.
While Unreal Engine is praised for its stunning visual fidelity, Vavra points out that achieving that level of graphical excellence demands high-end hardware—systems costing several thousand euros—that are far beyond the reach of the average gamer.
The original *Kingdom Come: Deliverance* launched several years ago, yet interest in its immersive depiction of medieval Bohemia remains strong. The sequel, [ttpp], promises to continue Indřich’s journey with improved graphics, a more refined combat system, and a deeply layered narrative rooted in real historical events.
Set for release on February 4, the game is highly anticipated by fans of the series. In this post, we’ve gathered all the latest updates regarding the upcoming launch, including official system requirements and an estimate of the time needed to complete the full story.
Stay tuned—we’ll provide immediate download instructions once *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2* becomes available, so you can dive into the rich medieval world right away.
